Q:
Is there a PCI video card with both VGA and HDMI output ports? And yes, I mean "PCI" not PCI Express.
Mar 12th, 14:29 - 3 Answers Category: Computers, Software & Add-Ons Details: I have a HP Pavilion a562n computer and I just want upgrade the graphic/video card in it without having to purchase a brand new computer - there's nothing wrong with my computer. I just bought a huge LCD HDTV and I want to play music videos through my computer onto the HDTV with the clearest, most crisp picture quality. I understand that HDMI cables transfer video and audio so that's a major reason I want to find a card with this capability so I will only need to run 1 cable through my house. Let's pretend that money is not an object (but it is), where can I find this video card? Can someone help a brother out?!? |

I looked high and low and couldn't find a single PCI card with HDMI out. As you probably already know, since PCI video cards are a couple of generations old it's hard to find new stuff. Sorry I can't help more but I'll drop you a message if I find anything.

Hey there. i answered the other pci express question. thanks for clarifying since details help. you've got a couple of problems here. first off, pci graphics cards are now a thing of the past. most are pci express and agp is slowly going out of style. second, you're correct in that hdmi is designed to transfer audio and video HOWEVER video cards aren't typically designed to transfer audio so you'll still have to run a separate audio cable. in terms of options you either take the quality hit and go with a vga / s-video connection from your existing pc or look for another solution - like an apple tv!

Sorry tacpbenavides, but I think you're stuck.
I'm generally the one in your situation - just looking for a minor upgrade, don't want to go all out on a new system, cause mine works fine.
But I think you're going to have to go with PCI-E, if you're looking for anything HDMI - the reason being the speed of the connection. Doing a search on Wikipedia, I found that PCI transfers at a maximum of 4gb/sec - and that's the newest revision (PCI-X)
HDMI transfers somewhere near 10.2gb/sec (HDMI 3.0).
Granted, wikipedia isn't perfect. However... I'm thinking you're asking for something that's physically impossible.
I wish you the best! Perhaps if you found a solid motherboard on Newegg, with PCI-E 16x, and a decent HDMI graphics card, you might be in shape for cheaper than you thought!
