Well, it definitely depends on your preference. You must first understand that both TV's currently out in the market today are both equally equivalent.
For resolution, plasma puts out a better black color thus making the contrast of the plasma better than LCD. This is because LCD TV's must shoot the color through the LCD screen creating a slight light leakage between pixels. LCD's however have a greater native resolution, which means basically that there are more pixels on the screen. (this is great benefit if you are into the 1080p resolution. top line plasmas also have 1080p, but many LCD have this already)
Some benefits of LCD's is that they use less electricity and are generally lighter weighted than a plasma. LCD's also tend to have a longer lifespan than plasmas and do not suffer from burn-in images as some plasma tv's do. (however newer plasma tv's have technology that helps to prevent this from happening)
Both TV's now are relatively the same price, and same shape. So the decision is purely up to you. I would suggest if you are going to get a tv bigger than 50" that you should go for a plasma because of the sharper quality it produces. (but as a forewarning, LCD TV's are now VERY similar to plasmas. so do your research. most definitely get a tv with a built in HD reciever. check the resolution. find out the pixel response time - the lower it is the better the quality.)
have fun!

The store dealer told me that LCD is more popular and has a clearer screen, also they last longer. However, LCDs are more expensive thank Plasma. I'd go with an LCD if I can afford it :)
