Sure, they're reliable, and be sure to check into the new BlueTec engines that many car companies are releasing in the next few years. They are cleaner than gasoline engines and as efficient as Hybrids.

I have heard that diesel cars are becoming much cleaner and more efficient as well. The recurring problem for me would be finding a regular and competitive gas station to frequent. You might check your route for diesel gas stations for convenience as well.

I have good luck w my TDI jetta-we agree whoever drives the furthest in commuting gets to drive it so it saves us$

Check out the VW new beetle diesel TDI - 40-45 mpg (mostly highway) - with a diesel engine in a small car, oil changes are needed less frequently, you get freat fuel mileage, and they're totally cute!
