Q:
are there any video cameras that have jacks for RECORDING video?
Oct 26th 2007, 09:26 - 4 Answers Category: Consumer Electronics Details: I know most cameras have jacks for playing video to the tv, I want to do the opposite. I want to record the video coming out of my xbox directly to tape, using an (ideally) mini dv camera. |

My Sony handycam (HC96) has this capability although I haven't used that function yet. It only takes analog input though, so no HDMI or component input. Overall I like the camera despite it being a little bigger than some of its competitors.

Many of canons expensive cameras have this ability. look for analog-digital converter in the product features. i know the canon hv20 has this feature since i have my eye on this camera. i can't wait to get it but it is still a little out of my price range.

It seems like there's no reason to buy a camera just to use it to record video. Have you considered using a video capture device and recording the video onto a compute (preferably a laptop) instead? Especially if you already have a laptop since that is just as mobile as a video camera. Many xbox users are using either the dazzle 90 or the 170. If you go this route you should also consider using virtualdub as your capturing software since the ones that come with dazzle have all sorts of issues. You can take a quick look at a YouTube how-to here for more information: http://www.youtube.com Either way feel free to let me know if you have any specific questions. Good luck.

Most top end DV and HDV camcorders have this feature. The same output jacks are input jacks via the camcorder's menu setting. You can also buy a cheap DVD Recorder for TVs (basically a VCR that records to DVD recordables).
