What is your budget like? I'd reccomend a 2007-2008 BMW three series. German quality is top notch, very reasonably milage and superb safty ratings. 4 year/50k mile warrenty (extendable to 6 yr/100k).

As the past owner of a number of BMWs, I would second tdevil's recommendation. However, if your budget is a bit tighter, consider looking at a Volkswagen as an alternative. Also, take a look at the smaller Lexus and Infinity models. Depending on your tastes, they could be more to your liking.
