I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind, but Why Can't You Read My Mind is an excellent book on dealing with relationship issues. Quick and easy to read. A few exercises to help you along. Very enlightening.

Oprah swears by this book and says she wouldn't be with Steadman today without it. I checked it out after her recommendation and although some of the theories blame your parents too much, it does helps you figure out the root of some of your patterns (problems). It is a great read for anyone in a long term relationship.

It's simple and fun to read. It gives lots of tips on how to improve communication between men and women (e.g. lovers, parent-children, business partners, etc.).

There is a reason this is a classic. I guarantee there will be at least a dozen cases in the book where you will say, "whoa, that's totally us!"

I also would vote for the classic "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus". Have the author in a seminar and liked it a lot.
