Details: Looking for something to block out the noise on my commute (train, bus) and while I'm working (chatty coworkers). Budget is under $100. Prefer earbuds to headphones. What's the best brand/model to go with? Thanks!

Shure E2c canal phones would do the trick. They are not active noise canceling (meaning - no extra electronics) but they create a good seal and drastically reduce noise. I love my Shures and they are a great value.

I have a pair similar to egoh's, I forgot the brand but noice canceling has been pretty good for me too. If you considering that headphones like Bose's have technology built into them, and that you are likely to get what you pay for in them, then noise canceling like Shure where they block out sound vs counteract them is likely to be better within your price range. It's weird to hear yourself breath with these things on.
